EXPERIENCE:

Heading up over 400 metallurgical projects for over 100 mining clients over the past 22 years, Lawrence A. Melis, President of Melis Engineering Ltd., is a recognized process engineer in the mining/engineering community. Lawrence's international experience has taken him across North America, Europe, Africa and Australia.

Before establishing his own consulting firm, Lawrence's previous mining industry experience included work as a Research Engineer, Mineral Processing Engineer, Mill Metallurgist, Mill Superintendent and Superintendent of Mill Development. His career path included work for recognized mining organizations such as Rio Algom Ltd., Anglo American Corporation, Gaspé Copper Mines Ltd.(Noranda Mines Ltd.) and Canada Wide Mines Ltd.(Esso Resources)

A Designated Consulting Engineer with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Western Ontario, Lawrence has also taken Geology classes from the University of South Africa. He is an active member in professional engineering associations including
Saskatchewan, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia, as well as being a member of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum and The Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada. Known for his extensive experience across a broad range of mining applications and minerals, Lawrence has addressed the mining community through various publications and presentations, and has taught a university extension short course in mineral processing and waste treatment.

Through the growth of his company,
Lawrence has remained an active leader of Melis' expert staff of engineers and designers. His leadership provides the guidance to create world class metallurgical and waste treatment processes. His language skills include both English and French.

EXPERIENCE:

With a background of 23 years of experience in hydrometallurgical operations, water treatment and process design engineering, Bruce C. Fielder is Senior Process Engineer at Melis Engineering Ltd.

Since joining the Melis team in 1994, Bruce has been responsible for metallurgical aspects of various projects taken on by the company. Bruce has been responsible for the Melis component of high profile projects including McArthur River, Midwest, McClean Lake, Sue Water Treatment Plant, Cigar Lake, Ladner Creek , the Prosperity Project, and the Harmony Project .

His engineering responsibilities on various projects have included preparation of metallurgical test programs, detailed plant process engineering and material balances, preparation of mill operating manuals, and the preparation of environmental impact statements. Bruce has also coordinated and supervised metallurgical and waste treatment programs. In addition he has assisted in plant start-ups which included operator training,

Before joining Melis, Bruce spent 11 years with Cameco Corporation as a Mill Metallurgist. His extensive and diversified responsibilities provided him with both the experience and tools he utilizes in his work at Melis.

Bruce earned a Bachelor of Science degree, having majored in Metallurgical Engineering, from the University of Alberta.

EXPERIENCE:

As Associate Metallurgist with Melis Engineering Ltd., KC brings over 30 years of operating experience to the Melis team. His expertise includes process optimization and troubleshooting, as well as mill commissioning and start-up, complemented with extensive operating experience in gold and base metal mineral processing.

 

In addition to working for Melis as Process Engineer on troubleshooting of gold mills and improving recoveries and plant operating efficiencies, he has gained solid experience on several gold mill start-ups and operations. These include the Julietta gold mine in Russia, the EnviroGold mill in Nova Scotia, the Blackdome gold mill in British Columbia, the Albino gold mill in Venezuela, the Pacific Golden Spike gravity plant in British Columbia, Gulf's gold mill in Tajikistan, the Skyline gold mill in British Columbia, the Tartan Lake gold mill in Manitoba, the Bootleg gold mill in Saskatchewan and the Cullaton gold mill in the Northwest Territories. In addition he has worked on the start-up and fine tuning of several Falcon Concentrator installations for gravity gold recovery. He also has experience with flowsheet development, pilot plant operations and environmental testing. Other mill operating experience includes working as Metallurgist for Sherritt Gordon Mines Ltd. at the Fox copper-gold-zinc mill in Manitoba, as Development Engineer at Cominco Ltd.'s Vanscoy potash mill in Saskatchewan, and as Development Engineer at Cominco Ltd.'s Kimberley base metal mill in British Columbia. His extensive mill experience is directly suited to the expertise provided to the mining industry by Melis.

Jack Sutherland

EXPERIENCE:

Jack Sutherland has over 30 years experience in the mining industry and has been responsible for mill construction and mill maintenance on numerous projects. He has developed solid experience in project execution and management having been directly responsible for mill construction and mill retrofit projects.

 

In addition to working for Melis as both Project Manager and Construction Manager, Jack has extensive experience as Mine Manager, Superintendent and General Maintenance Foreman at mining, construction and chemical facilities.
